14 May 2026. Penllyn

We had a good visit to the lakes at Penllyn

Nine of us attended.

Apart from a heavy hailstorm when we had to shelter in some willows the weather was good.

As we had knowledgeable entymologists with us we spent some time looking in the undergrowth for insects.

Some of the birds seen or heard were -

Canada geese and goslings, Swans, reed warblers, willow warblers, wrens, mallards and young, only one swallow and one house martin

Irises were blooming well.

Some of the insects seen were :dark bush cricket nymph on comfrey;

micromoth on buttercup; red damsel fly; crab spider; weevil on nettles; leaf beetle on docks; green shield bug; green veined white butterfly; copper butterfly.

The track to the lakes is lined with Siberian elms.
