29 May 2024 Penrhys Pilgrimage Way

Seven pilgrims caught the bus (as they do) from Groes Faen to Llandaf to begin the first stage of the pilgrimage walk from Llandaf to the shrine at Penrhys.

As the start is so near Cardiff we expected a fair amount of pavement pounding but far from it; it was largely a delightful walk through woodland and across meadows full of flowers and sheep, with some fine views over the Bristol Channel.

The route leaves the cathedral west door and follows the river to Radyr Chain where it strikes off through woods towards Radyr (a corrupted Welsh word meaning plough) where we stopped for a welcome coffee.

Radyr woods took us towards Pentyrch then uphill by a hollow way to Creigiau. We passed two bridges over disused railways and the pond in Creigiau, soon arriving at our starting point where we enjoyed a celebratory meal.

We plan to complete the remaining sections of the walk later in the year.
