Nine members of the U3A long walking group enjoyed a fine day exploring the parks and gardens of north/ north east Cardiff, led by Judith & Colin.
Although it was not a challenging, hilly route, being almost completely flat, we covered 9 and a half miles in total, with welcome breaks for fine coffee in Wellfield Road and a delicious light lunch in Rhyd -Y- Penau Road. The day was a trip down memory lane for 3 of us brought up in that area of Cardiff. Thanks must go to Roger for entertaining us with interesting anecdotes including Fairoak and the model depicting the site of a former Watermill in Roath.
The circular route from Scott's Memorial Lighthouse in Roath Park took us south/south east as far as Waterloo Gardens near Newport Road and returning via Roath Rose Park Garden, then up to Heath Park, leading down to a short wooded stretch of the Nant Fawr River to the recently opened Llanishen Reservoir before returning back to the cars.
