Cowbridge

Cowbridge February 2023

June led of group of 12 walkers on the February walk – 10 members plus 2 visitors who were very welcome. We left the Cattle Market in Cowbridge and headed West through fields to the Clump on St Hilary Downs - then East of Aberthin to Welsh St Donats where we stopped for a rest at the Church

St Donat's Church is a Grade I listed church which became a Grade I listed building on 28 January 1963. Records of 1180 describe the church as a chapel confirmed to the Abbey of Tewkesbury. By 1563 it was known to have served as a parish church for the community

We continued past Maendy - and the sadly still empty Jane Hodge Resort Hotel at

Trerhyngyll - and then on to Cowbridge across fields.

The weather was cool but not windy and there were some lovely views, relatively littlemud, and some absolutely average stiles!

It was good to see that the notoriously muddy path (think slurry) through Newton Farm can now be avoided by using a new and much appreciated path alongside it.
We walked past the ‘maternity ward’ for the sheep at the farm with many obviously about to deliver their babies and we could see a new born lamb with his mother a little way inside the barn – a sure sign that spring is on its way

We ended with a very welcome drink and lunch at the Duke of Wellington
