Thirteen members met at Ramoth Church hall for the Indoor Meeting on 4th December.
After a rapid AGM welcoming 3 new members there was a recap of the year’s activities.
There had been trips to Porthcawl/Kenfig in January, Gileston/Aberthaw in February mainly for birdwatching. In May we visited the SSSI near Craig Penllyn to see wild flowers and in August, Claire invited us to explore the wildlife in her grounds. We tagged along with other organised events at other times, including a talk on Barn Owls in the Town Hall and another one on Water Voles, and a tour led by the head arborealist in Dyffryn Gardens which was held on 2 different dates.
Members were encouraged to sign up to organise events through the year and also to join a WhatsApp group for easier access for the newly re-instated NH Obs group and NH Extra.
The Accounts drawn up by Angie our Treasurer were approved .
Val then showed all the photos from the competition and gave a breakdown of the results and announced the clear winner which was ” The King”, a photo of a kingfisher by Paul Cottrell.
For the quiz which followed, people arranged themselves into small groups and worked their way through a variety of questions and were also presented with a series of bird songs to identify and a display of butterflies to name and to match up with their caterpillars.
Following a short break for sherry and mince pies, the quiz was marked and the winners were declared and given prizes - Claire Jenkins and Linda Nottage, who will now have the honour of setting the quiz next year.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all for taking part.
