14 January 2026. Spy Craft - intelligence gathering from Elizabethan times to the 1980's

An absolutely fascinating talk. Retired GCHQ employee Peter Cox described the history of spying and several case studies. Peter told the packed hall (over 80 Cowbridge u3a members) how Queen Elizabeth 1 appointed the very first Spymasters in the 1550s who successfully intercepted and thwarted several plots against her; to more modern day, covert surveillance techniques. Just as interesting as James Bond films but this is the real world, not fiction!
