The subject of the March meeting of the Tuesday Tipplers was wines from the Denbies wine estate, Surrey. The presenter had historical connections with the original owner of the property. The first wine was a white wine, Surrey Gold, which was a pleasant fruity blend and appreciated by those present. Secondly, Rose Hill Rosé had a blush salmon pink colour with a good zesty flavour. Thirdly, Redlands, as the name suggested was a red wine, nicely balanced, medium bodied, with no harsh aftertaste. Finally, an unusual ‘orange’ wine, made from Solaris grape. The bottle had a distinctive thick plastic orange capsule. This type of wine is made from white grapes and the skins are allowed to stay in contact with the juice for seven months. It produced a medium white wine which was awarded ‘Innovation of the year’ in 2022. All the wines were surprisingly good for the reasonable prices paid.
