The History Group is planning a trip to Lacock, on Thursday 3 September 2026.

As there are a few places on the coach, the trip is now being opened to all Cowbridge u3a members, but hurry if you are interested!

Lacock is near Chippenham in Wiltshire. Comprising a lively 13th century village owned by the National Trust, it is exceptionally preserved, with timber-framed and stone buildings. It is unchanged for 200 years, enabling it to be used as a popular filming location. It has a 13th century Abbey with monastic cloisters, now part of a 16th century Tudor grade 1 listed country house. The self-guided tour includes being able to visit first floor rooms.  The Abbey is set in parkland, and includes The Fox Talbot Museum, where the first photographic negative was invented in 1835.

If you are a member of the National Trust (NT), visiting the whole site is covered by presenting your membership card. If you are not a member, it will be necessary to pay for a day ticket in order to visit the Abbey with cloisters and first floor rooms, to visit the parkland, and to gain admittance to The Fox Talbot Museum.  Members of the NT pay for the coach fare only: £27-00.  Non members pay for the coach fare and your day ticket for Lacock: total £48-00.  Please note that this does not include payment for any refreshments.

We expect to leave Cowbridge on the day at 9.00am. It is then planned to have a short coffee/toilet stop at Leigh Delamere services on the M4. We expect to be back in Cowbridge about 7.00pm.
