The subject of the April meeting of the Tuesday Tipplers was wines from the Rhone Valley in France. The presenter gave an interesting introduction to the geology and climate of the region. The first wine was white, Ventoux Blanc les Ribes du Vallat Château Juvenal, which was a pleasant fruity blend of Clairette and Viognier grape varieties. Secondly, Lirac Blanc La Fermade, Domaine Maby, a white wine blend of Grenache Blanc and Picpoul grape which was very nice. Thirdly, Côtes-du-Rhône, Domaine Jaume, nicely balanced red wine of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. It was medium bodied, with no harsh aftertaste. Finally, Crozes-Hermitage Les Jalets, was an excellent single variety Grenache, producing a ripe plummy taste, with a hint of cherries and abundant spice with subtle tannins.
