A wet and soggy start to our visit this year to Hugh Child's garden and arboretum. However, the showers eased and Hugh and Cai the dog gave us a tour of his domain. Hugh is obviously a very keen 'tree man'. Over the past 20 years ago he has collected some magnificent specimens and turned an empty field into an arboretum.
He claims his greatest pleasure is in the construction of paths and borders but his commitment to spending 4 to 5 hours every day weeding and planting in the garden suggests he is also a keen horticulturalist.
A group of ten ignored the weather forecast and were able to enjoy a couple of hours in tranquillity. Hugh was even kind enough to offer coffee and tea afterwards.
We welcome Richard, Sue and Felicity to the Group, which now numbers fifteen.
