The theme for the September meeting was Old World/New World Wines.
It was a comparison of two grape varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The first example of the former was from France, which was a fresh, elegant example. While the one from Australia was more robust with a fuller fruitier flavour. This demonstrated the difference in climate and terroir between the two countries.
The first Pinot Noir was again from France and was a light fragrant refreshing red. While that from Australia was deeper in colour and taste, with good ripe fruits and subtle tannins. Both served different purposes, the French wines probably better suited to food, while the Australian wines are more suited to drinking alone.
