The new ‘Classics’ range from M&S.

Jennifer and David introduced us to "The new ‘Classics’ range from M&S". They pointed out this selection is easily accessible, carefully chosen by the company’s buyers, producing a wide selection of wines of high quality at an affordable price. Many of the wines are exclusive to this retailer.

The evening started with Crémant de Bourgogne from France, a sparkling wine made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Aligoté and Gamay grapes. It is then aged in the bottle to give a fine and elegant mousse and very pleasant taste. Next was a white Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley. It had a very open, fruity and aromatic character with a vibrant, lemony finish.

The first red of the evening was a Valpolicella Ripasso from Italy. Using mainly local grape varieties, the wine is made in part with the dried grape skins, producing a dark cherry, plum and spice taste. Finally, the evening concluded with a Lomas del Marques, Rioja, from Spain. This was a smooth and refined dark red wine with a taste of berries and spice.
