The five-strong team from Cowbridge u3a did not prosper at the September 2022 inter-u3a quiz tournament hosted by Pontyclun u3a, finishing outside the first three in a field of seven. The fact that most teams had six members wasn’t a sufficient mitigating circumstance!
Scoring in three rounds was respectable, if not outstanding, but the collective knowledge of “TV and Films” was somewhat lacking.
The two tabletop quizzes, “Logos” and “Dingbats”, scored a creditable 19/24, but Round 5, “General Knowledge”, had a sting in its tail and, yes, the team got stung! This was the “Wipe out” heat, with any incorrect answer resulting in the entire score for the round being erased. The team’s second answer was wrong, so “nul points” was the outcome.
Pontyclun u3a 1 were worthy winners (20½ points ahead of Cowbridge), with Porthcawl, who also had a strong team, second, just one point behind them. Garth Olwg u3a (from Church Village) were third.
As usual with these events, refreshments were provided by the host organisation during the interval.
