Bridgend U3A kindly hosted another Inter-U3A Quiz at Brackla Community Centre. This year, there were eleven teams of six, drawn from Bridgend (2 teams), Swansea, Maesteg (2 teams), Cardiff (2 teams), Porthcawl, Pontyclun, Tonyrefail and Cowbridge.
The quiz started with a cryptic word puzzle, where the answers were all parts of the body, for example, "you need a dig for this rave"*.
Rounds followed on 'around Britain', general knowledge and human anatomy (Cowbridge's worst-scoring round - no medical expertise on the team!), before a refreshments break was taken, when a vast selection of assorted cakes, biscuits and other confectionery was on offer.
The quiz continued with questions on music and musicals, the first lines of books and, finally, food and drink.
The worthy, clear winners were the Pontyclun team, representing the newest U3A in the region. There was a close competition for third place, with the Cowbridge sextet once again taking that position by just one point.
*answer: shin(dig)
