January 2016 Quiz

History Group Quiz

The Guest Speaker for the January 2016 History Group meeting cancelled at short notice (she had been in hospital with pneumonia) and there was no time to try to organise a replacement.

Fortunately, Thelma Jeeves had a contingency plan for such an eventuality – a quiz. The attendees were split into teams of four (some more and others less!) and answered three rounds of questioning on the Victorian Age, Georgian England and the Stuarts. There was no excuse for a blank space on the answer sheet, as it was multiple choice – not that that helped much, judging by the head-scratching and looks of bewilderment that were seen at times.

There was a welcome break for tea and coffee after the second round of questioning; time for overworked brains to cool down.

The winning team comprised Val, Dianne (a new U3A member), Mags (a new History Group recruit) and Steve.

Time just flew by and the meeting finished later than usual as a result. Everyone agreed it had been an enjoyable experience, even if they had expected the Newport Transporter Bridge, not the Spanish Inquisition**!

Our thanks go to Thelma for preparing the questions and acting as Quiz Master/Mistress/Person.

** Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.
