Report on 2021 Consultation

COWBRIDGE U3A HISTORY GROUP

REPORT ON 2021 CONSULTATION (REPLACEMENT FOR AGM)

Correspondence by e-mail was substituted for the Cowbridge U3A History Group's 2021 AGM, given that the group were unable to meet up in person because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Voting on proposals was undertaken electronically. Approximately 55% of the membership voted.

1. Minutes of 2020 Annual General Meeting

These were circulated shortly after last year's AGM and had also been available on the History webpage for nearly a year. A copy was re-circulated by e-mail.

PROPOSAL: That the Minutes be accepted as an accurate account of the 2020 History AGM.

32 in Favour, with 1 Abstention. None Against

MOTION APPROVED.

2. Group Leader's Report

All the scheduled meetings, commencing in March 2020, were cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions. Including the 2021 AGM, that meant there had been 12 cancellations.

Short articles on various topics had been added to the webpage most months in lieu of the meetings. Thanks went to Thelma Jeeves for her excellent "Drovers Way" article and to Gavin Davies, who embraced modern technology (with the aid of his grandson) and kindly prepared a "You Tube" presentation on WW1 poet Robert Service.

39 members of the group paid a subscription fee of £10.00 for the 2020-2021 year; these had already been informed that the subscriptions would be carried forward to 2021-2022.

Thirteen members of the group had not rejoined Cowbridge U3A and were deemed to have left the History Group.

Speakers were being booked for the next 12 months, but, unfortunately, there were no indications as to when indoor meetings could re-start. It was hoped that all the talks that were cancelled could be re-booked for sometime in the future.

3. Record of Accounts (submitted by Hywel Davies)

A copy of the Accounts was circulated. Apart from the collection of subscriptions, there was little activity on the account during the year.

Many thanks went to Hywel Davies for acting as Treasurer for the last four years.

PROPOSAL: That the Accounts be accepted as an accurate account of the group's financial affairs.

32 in Favour, with 1 Abstention. None Against.

MOTION APPROVED.

4. Subscription Rate for 2021-2022

As there were, essentially, no outgoings in the last year, it was proposed to keep the subscription fee at £10.00 per annum per member.

This amount was payable by all members who hadn't paid last year.

PROPOSAL: That the subscription rate for 2021-2022 be kept to £10.00 per person.

33 in Favour. None Against.

MOTION APPROVED.

5. Election of Group Leader and Group Treasurer

The Group Leader and the Treasurer had indicated that they were willing to continue in their rôles for a further year. There were no other candidates for these positions.

It was noted that the group cannot function without a Leader and a Treasurer.

PROPOSAL: That Steve Monaghan be re-elected as Group Leader.

32 in Favour, with 1 Abstention. None Against.

MOTION APPROVED.

PROPOSAL: That Hywel Davies be re-elected as Group Treasurer.

32 in Favour, with 1 Abstention. None Against.

MOTION APPROVED.

6. Any Other Business

None was notified.
