The talk will be on the 2021-26 seasons of survey and excavation undertaken as part of the Fonmon Castle Landscape Archaeology Project, focusing on the discovery of the important Llancadle South early medieval cemetery complex. Excavations here have revealed a unique and well-preserved site that is helping to transform our understanding of the 5th to 7th centuries AD in southeast Wales.
Dr Andy Seaman is Reader in Early Medieval Archaeology at Cardiff University. He is a specialist in late antique and early medieval western Britain and is currently leading a number of research projects, including the Leverhulme Trust funded Making the March and the AHRC funded Ecologies of Governance. He is also leading a long-term programme of fieldwork focused on the environs of Fonmon Castle.
