A welcome return visit by Debra John, following her memorable performance as The Swansea Debtor in February.
Debra John was born and brought up in Swansea. She studied Drama and English at university in Aberystwyth and gained a PGCE in primary teaching at Swansea University. She is also an Associate in Music of Trinity College, London. She was awarded Honorary Branch Fellowship of The Historical Association (Swansea) in 2019.
A freelance actor and storyteller, Debra plays a wide range of characters, and performs in schools, museums, castles and other sites of historic interest throughout Wales and beyond, giving audiences an insight to the country’s heritage.
Television appearances as historical characters include Mistress Prichard in ‘The Story of Wales’ (BBC Cymru Wales) and Amy Dillwyn in ‘Mamwlad: Amy Dillwyn’ (S4C). Debra provides voiceovers for heritage organisations and exhibitions, and appears regularly in murder mysteries across Wales and the west of England.
She played Amy Dillwyn in the presence of the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and won a ‘Llefaru’(‘Recitation’) competition at the virtual National Eisteddfod in 2021.
